Takin A Breather From The Bike

I was looking forward to taking this break for so long! I’m really amped I got to take it because I was so tired by the end of my road and cross seasons. Right after worlds I headed to Jelly Belly camp. I had a great time meeting my new teammates and catching up with my friends plus getting all my new gear. After camp I shot up to L.A. to hang out with Clinton Sparks. I got the chance to see him create music with world-class producers, engineers, and songwriters. img_0351 That was an amazing experience; I learned so much about music production over the course the night, it was awesome. As a side note: the studio in L.A. tends to bring in a crowd. I watched Paris Hilton roll up in her bright pink Bentley, I felt like I was on the red carpet as I watched music gurus like Flo-Rida get buzzed in through tight security.

Now I’ve been back home in Massachusetts for a couple weeks trying to hang onto my sanity while I’m off the bike. This break is finally my chance to catch up with some house-keeping items 1) get rid of about two seasons worth of clothing, bikes, and equipment, 2) replace the old kits with the new ones 3) switch out the glasses/helmets etc. for newer ones 4 ) (try to) do my taxes, 5) organize my belongings/life and 6) spend some time with my girlfriend and family.

I did get to step away from the organizing frenzy for a bit and even though I’m technically on vacation from the bike, I am still finding ways to keep it movin. Last week I headed out to the Berkshires and got in two days of snowboarding. img_0385 I successfully made it through those days without crashing to bad. I’ve been on a epic three hour hike up Mt. Tom right here in town. It was quite an adventure trying to navigate over ice, snow, and precipices in frigid temperatures, but it was awesome. img_03591 I got in some days on the mountain bike and rode on the hard packed snow, the conditions really were rare. The snow was crispy enough that it had grip and I didn’t crash too bad. I did flat a tubeless tire which ended with me running the last three miles with the bike to get home one day but for the rest of the time it was great. Last week I got out to Bay Road Bikes / CycloCrossWorld.com for a good talk with some of the local riders and a Q+A on everything cycling. So I’ve tried to stay busy, but as a cyclist, not riding is similar to breaking up with your significant other. So of course I headed out yesterday with some of the guys and we did a nice sub 4hr ride, which got the legs movin and made me feel human again img_0390

Speaking of fitness though, I want to invite everyone to join me on the Lance Armstrong Foundation ride in Philadelphia this August. I’ll be riding with my friends from Cigna. I did the ride last year and it was awesome, plus its all for an amazing cause! More information is here
