Anyone that’s ever been to Europe knows that the one thing that makes every foreigners heart melt are the little cookies that come individually wrapped with your coffee. Those are called Speculoos and they’re delicious and addictive. Well some Belgian friends of ours took us over to the grocery store yesterday and were telling us all about this hit T.V show here in the “Belg.” Apparently the show is for people who invent different ideas (similar to the show we have in the states, I assume…) But this women invented Speculoos ‘butter’
It’s consistency is similar to peanut butter and the taste is off the hook. So you know that I picked up a couple jars. Most Belgians run from peanut butter like its the plague, so to see the speculoo butter here is a a bright invention to take a food that has a taste most Belgians love and make it into something similar to peanut butter. (I dont know why I didn’t think of that honesty) So that is a welcome change from last year to this year. The new apartment is close to the Belgian city, Ieper. Finally got out on a ride today and checked out the new roads around the house. Finding the quickest route into town and pushing the limits on getting lost is always fun. I just saw GB gave the auto bail out… I also just read that Ari / Jeremy Piven from Entourage has mercury poisoning from eating sushi twice a day. Two times a day!? I mean I like sushi as much as the next guy but dammdd! Thats a lot of fish bro! I was in Germany yesterday to pick up the Cannondale truck
and I was catching up on Smashtime Radio with my friend Clinton Sparks. As I was listening to his show he gave me a shout out! I wasn’t expecting it so I had to play it back, thank you SPARKS! Sparks and I have some good things planned for 2009. It’s going to be a fun year. Again, if you’re needing some music for training check out his site and get to downloading, free mixtapes and podcasts. GET FAMILIAR! I’m off to relax, the guys are leaving tomorrow for the world cup in France. I’m takin the weekend off and getting back to 100% before I go to battle in Zolder, Belgium at the world cup on the 26th. thanks for reading, I’m out.

The speculoos spread is kick butt especially on crepes and gaufres. I live in north France near the Belgium border. I’m originally from Louisiana but have been in the area for 2 years now and I discovered this nummy num num goodness about 2 months ago. Today I heated a croissant in the oven and split it open and put a good tablespoon of pate de speculoos inside. Too irresistible. You’re right though about the peanut butter issue. It’s ALWAYS the first thing brought up once people realize I’m not French but American. Yeah, we eat some bad stuff back home but it’s funny they don’t have a phobia over eating Nutella 2x a day.
Loved the article.
