Pheewww YEA!

ALLRIGHTTT, The update on the legs is great. I went out to Utah on a spur of the moment / rash decision to see Dr. Testa at ‘TOSH’. Max was awesome, not only did we go over every detail of my problem(s) dating back to February with the stomach crap I was dealing with, but also my leg situation. He brought in his whole crew to help figure out what was going down and we got everyones opinion. Even Eric Hieden himself was there to give his 2 cents. It was a top notch trip and I got the okay to start training full deal again on my left leg. Basically I was dealing with two separate issues. One regarding my stomach virus from way back in February. And the other, the pain in my achilles tendon which left some residual scar tissue and bonded some muscles together, creating those “knots” and that needed to be broken up. So, the stomach stuff was straight forward, the leg was dealt with through some excruciating massages followed up with some ice on the legs to prevent it from getting black and blue! icing.jpg Now I’m able to ride. So, I’m finally a bike racer again, I’ve been putting in the miles too. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do, but I’ve got the freshness of four months with out racing to my advantage, so I’m banking on that to help me get a couple results before the seasons out. I’ve even been doing a little motor pacing with the scooter, photo_071207_001.jpg motor pacing is a great tool to get in those race style efforts and accelerations that you can usually only get racing. The other nice part of training behind the scooter is you don’t really think about how hard you’re riding, you just think about hangin’ on. Good stuff. So I’ve been training good for about 4+ wks now and I actually had Emily drop me off last weekend at a local race in Connecticut, only to be told to turn around and head home! The field limit was 100 guys and they couldn’t up the limit because of insurance reasons, so I just started riding home with a guy Trent and he got me half way home and out of the area that I wasn’t that familiar with so he made it easy. THANKS TRENT! He had some hilarious stories about cyclist road rage and how one of the guys in his club has beatin the crap out of some people. Hahah. We started talking about it because someone beeped at us, and I told him about how this guy almost drove over Emily and I a couple weeks earlier and I zipped a bottle at his car and actually made contact. He kept driving and just gave me the bird, so I tried to catch him at a red light up the street and to get moving I drafted this suburu wagon. So I get close to the truck that created the original problem and the light turns green, he floors it, the guy in the Suburu sped up and pulled over in front of me and got out of his car. I thought he had seen what happened and was going to be a good samaritan. WRONG. This guy grabbed me by the arm when I stopped and said “WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO RAM YOUR BIKE INTO MY BUMPER!!!” hahahaha! Really, my 19lb bike is going to do anything to your 1/2 ton suburu? Soo, I threw this beast back with a nice shove and some good advice “Keep your hands to yourself…” ya know you learn that is 1st grade, simple stuff. He body slammed my bike in the woods, so I took my shoes off because you know you cant fist fight in your cycling shoes. I also conveniently kept my helmet on to prevent another episode to the hospital. Uhggg, so how crazy is this, I didn’t have a problem with this guy… and here I am my bikes in the woods I’ve got my shoes off and this guys arms are shaking over by his car “comon, fight me, come over here.” I’m going to end there because nothing more really happened, he drove off all pissed off when I verbally kept abusing him. I couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t acting tough or arrogant, I just wanted to get the trucks license plate number. Unreal how something like that got carried away. I guess I’ll end this update now, training goin awesome did a great ride up into New Hampshire today photo_070107_002.jpg and I’m hoping that I can actually race this weekend in a local Connecticut race, I even pre-registered!

    Jay,
What’s up with the flack on the road? We spoke about this crap and cars and how ignorant people can be. I know how stupid this sounds but trouble with cars is inevitable and your season has had many bumps already think before you react and put that irish temper on hold. Confucius say car has more power and force than bike no need to visit you in hospital before season gets rolling. Call me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
