Working on it!
Gossip June 14th, 2007The lack of updates is horrendous. I’m sorry, the bottom line is, I’ve been busy! The long story short is the training had to come to another stop after my legs continued to cramp cramp cramp, every time I touched the pedals, cramp. So, I stopped riding and did it ALL over from scratch. The lesson to take from this is, don’t push an injury that every doctor you saw told you to rest and not mess with. I’ve only been riding if I had zero pain and no tightness. When I have any kind of tightness, I head home, hop in the caprice and drive to the pool to finish the work there. If you’ve ever been injured or been forced to take time off from what ever it is your passionate about, its an extremely hard thing to do! With the time off I’m finally doing the things that will make a difference when the legs do come back. A lot of core strength exercises, “active-isolated” stretching and specific exercises to strengthen the muscles that failed me a couple months ago. Alright, thats enough with the injury update, the last thing I should say about the legs is, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and it feels good. So I’ll recap the last month or so. I had previously blogged about the tour de cure fund raiser I rode with Jelly Belly in Napa,CA. First, thank you to everyone who sponsored me, together we raised $765!!! My goal was 150 and I smoked it! I met a lot of really strong people who have been managing their diabetes and living life to it’s fullest despite their setbacks. I decided after the fund raiser to stick around in Napa and headed to UC Davis to have the legs looked over, it was good, they did some structural adjustments to my cleats and saddle height etc. I had to wait about a week to get in down their so I burned some freq. flyer miles and had the ladie come out. We test drove a couple winery’s and I had met a guy (Bob) while riding in Napa who worked for Cartlidge and Brown. It was an awesome experience. I had no idea I had met the national marketing rep for C&B! It was fun, we tasted a bunch of their wines and then he took the time to show Emily and I all over the winery, the bottling process, the barrels the red wines sit in and the HUGE vats the whites sit in. I had no idea the vats were built in all different diameters and heights to accommodate the variation in amounts of crushed grapes so none is thrown out.
We also headed to San Fran, but I hadn’t really been to fishermans wharf except for racing and I wanted to see what kind of sour dough bread was baking out that way. They have a lot of bread, it wasn’t New England style but its cool to see the variations of the recipes. Look at all this!
I guess the most fun I had recently was probably when I headed back home and checked out my man Clinton Sparks in Boston at club Venu. It was off the hooook. First off we got set up with some VIP bracelets just by being in line first, the lady and I danced a little, I was keeping an eye on the achilles so that wasn’t really working. But then about 12 o’clock I met Clinton and we snapped off a picture
chatted a little, I told him he broke my ipod, since I don’t use any of the buttons anymore, I download the podcast on Thursdays and thats my training mix for the week. He went off to smash on the turntables. It was complete role reversal, at bike races people seek me out to get say hi and here I am being a groupie asking for pictures. I don’t even care it was a good time, I need to get some turntables for myself, its just that simple, I was inspired. I guess thats really all I’ve been up too. I want to be racing in July, so I’m going to keep that goal out there and I think thats going to be attainable. My director and teammates have been so patient and understanding I owe them a lot. So July it is. Until I have something more, Thanks for stopping in!

People seek me out for autographs. The few races I went to this year with you. No one ask for your autograph. Matter in fact, they were asking you if you had scene Lance walking around.

J-Man,
You mean I might be able to hang with you on a ride now? I went from hernia, to falling off a ladder and now I just had to put my dog down, maybe I should write a country song with all the s@@$ that has been going down. I hear you are going to China, is that for real, give me a ring if you are in the area. John
